Two former… crackers became hackers of the Cybercrime Directorate. The former “illegals” became… legal researchers, voluntarily and non-profitably offering their services to combat all forms of cybercrime.
The advanced intention of the commander of the Electronic Crime Directorate, Brigadier General Manolis Sfakianakis, to propose that such smart young people be hired with... a service record in the Hellenic Police, had taken "flesh and bones" some time ago, but in a different form, without a financial cooperation relationship.
The two young men, aged 19 and 16, had recently been charged in separate cracking cases. They were given restrictive conditions prohibiting them from leaving the country and reporting to the police station in their area of residence twice. The investigating officer made an innovative proposal to the two accused.
"Do you want, instead of going to the police station, to do it at the Cybercrime Prosecution Office?" the judicial officer seems to have asked. The two young men are reportedly excited about the idea and said they were willing to do so.
