Sends a small electric shock when you miss the target
How many times have you said you were going to start exercising, done it for one day, and then forgotten the promise you made to yourself the next?
For those of you who recognized yourself in the sentence above, there is a solution and it lies in a small... "punishment" bracelet.
It's called Pavlok and it's based on the idea of positive reinforcement, with which one can manage to change habits, as its manufacturers claim.
The bracelet "tracks" your movements and, with the help of built-in sensors, gives you a small electric shock every time you don't complete your goals.
Although we can't say that this is "positive reinforcement" (rather the opposite), its manufacturers claim that it is designed to encourage people to change their behavior.
As reported by a report on the website Boston.com, its manufacturers hope that it will be available on the market within the current year.
So far they have raised $100,000 from interested investors and plan to launch a crowdfunding campaign in order to raise more resources.
"It's not so much about the electric shock as it is about training the brain to do what the person says they want to do," product designer Maneesh Sethi told the website.
“Using psychologically proven and tested algorithms, the Pavlok bracelet reinforces commitments to fitness, productivity, and more, even if that means those commitments are “triggered” by a few mild electric shocks,” the designers state on the company’s website.
