A report by the well-known electronic security company Avast revealed that hackers use weak passwords, just like the majority of users worldwide.
Avast analyzed a sample of approximately 40,000 security codes that they collected during their malware research in recent years.
Through their analyses, they discovered that only 10% of passwords were above a level that they could not be easily recovered using known methods.
They also found that almost none of the passwords contained capital letters, despite repeated warnings from security experts to use mixed-case passwords. Most of the passwords were in English and consisted of common words and phrases, often containing variations of the words pass, root, and hax.
The average length of the codes was just six characters, and only 52 were longer than 12 characters.
