According to new statistics and metrics related to the month of May, the use of Windows 8 is on the rise, as more and more users decide to abandon Windows XP, in search of a new platform.
Data from StatCounter shows that Windows 7 continues to be the undisputed market leader, with a total share of 55.09%, which means that at least 1 in 2 computers are powered by this version of the operating system.
Windows XP is in second place, with a market share of 16.11%, followed by Mac OS X with 8.89%.
The biggest surprise, however, comes from the combined market share of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, Microsoft's modern operating systems that have climbed significantly in recent months and are very close to surpassing Windows XP.
Windows 8 and 8.1 combined power 13.77% of computers worldwide, and if they maintain this growth rate, they will surpass Windows XP in the coming months.
