Chinese websites were forced to remove videos of four popular American series (Big Bang Theory, NCIS, The Practice and The Good Wife) over the weekend, following an order from Chinese authorities.
Last week, the publishing license of one of the largest internet companies in China was also revoked, as part of the fight against pornography.
According to a major state-run newspaper, people "enjoyed the conveniences of the Internet," but were also faced with "negative impacts and exposed to hidden security risks.".

The ban on the videos was followed by a directive from the State Administration of Press, Publications, Radio, Film and Television according to which unlicensed programs and films are not allowed to be broadcast online.
Violation of the rules for broadcasting online programs carries a fine and, in serious cases, even a five-year ban on ventures and investments in online programs.
