Two letters for 3.6 million dollars – «Smaller name, bigger world», said a company spokesperson
The domain name Mi.com changed hands for 3.6 million dollars and became the most expensive domain name purchased in 2014. The buyer was the Chinese smartphone company «Xiaomi».
The amount paid to acquire Mi.com eclipsed the $3.1 million for which Whisky.com was bought last year.
It is believed, according to Skynews, that the company chose this domain name from the last two letters of its name, estimating that it will help it enter Western markets where the pronunciation or syllabification of its full name is more difficult.
«Smaller name, bigger world :)», wrote the company's representative on Twitter.
The most expensive domain name ever sold is VacationRentals.com, which was sold for 35 million dollars in 2007.
Following are Insure.com with 16 million dollars and Sex.com with 13 million dollars.
Mi.com is the 17th most expensive domain name ever sold.
