US critical of governments taking action against NSA spying

How-the-US-Shamelessly-Criticizes-Other-Govts-Who-Are-Sick-of-NSA-Spying

This week, top United States officials had the audacity to criticize the European Unionfor wanting to build its own telecommunications system aimed at securing emails and phone calls against NSA spying.

More specifically, the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) described the system and security measures as "draconian" and argued that American technology companies would take a huge economic hit if EU leaders approved these measures.

“Recent proposals by countries within the European Union to create a solely European electronic network or create national networks could potentially lead to the downgrading or outright exclusion of foreign suppliers offering network services, or cooperating with the EU,” the USTR emphasizes.

The USTR also pointed out that such a drastic move by the European Union would constitute a violation of the agreement signed between the US and the EU regarding online services.

The Safe Harbor agreement governing the exchange of personal data with the United States currently allows US companies to access European data.
