New Spam Campaign Exploits the Name of the British Institute NICE

Cybercriminals-Tell-Users-They-Might-Have-Cancer-to-Trick-Them-into-Installing-Malware

Security researchers have identified yet another spam campaign, which relies on sending fake emails purporting to come from the UK's National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and informing users that they may have cancer.

The malicious emails are titled: “IMPORTANT: blood analysis results” and come from the address: no_reply@nice.org.uk.

The emails contain an attached PDF file, which supposedly contains the results of the patients' blood tests. The file is actually an executable file, which infects the victims' computers with malware.

The malware is a variant of the Win32/PSW.Fareit.A Trojan, designed to steal passwords and other sensitive information from infected computers.
