Pedophiles send e-mails and "trap" computers

514672e83bd921763f72539119c98fdb_XLHow they turn on the cameras and monitor children without them knowing – The Cybercrime Prosecution recommends great caution.

It's a nightmarish, sick reality! Pedophiles approach underage girls and boys through social networking sites and then send them an e-mail - a "trap" with which they gain control of their computer.

With special software, they open the web camera, from where they see and record the children in their room at every moment! When they undress to change clothes or go to sleep, they watch them through the "keyhole" of the computer!

And the incredible thing is that unscrupulous pedophiles see their private moments, without the children and their parents having the slightest idea!

Pedophiles record the daily lives of their victims for two reasons: Either to threaten them that they will distribute the visual material to their friends and classmates in order to succumb to blackmail with the aim of making an appointment with them to satisfy their sick appetites, or to upload the visual material to websites with child pornography!

PARENTS COVER THE CAMERA WITH INSULATING TAPE

Cases of computer cameras being turned on without parents or children realizing it, according to officers from the Electronic Crimes Division, have increased in recent months. According to police, because there are still no special filters that will block the malicious software of pedophiles, the only ways to protect children, apart from the vigilance of parents who must discreetly monitor their children's conversations in "communication rooms" and of course place computers in areas such as the living room and not in bedrooms, are to remove the computer cameras if possible, while in the case of those built into laptops, to cover the "eye" of the camera with insulating tape!

SEVEN TIPS FOR CHILD PROTECTION

The Cybercrime Prosecution gives seven tips to children on how to protect themselves online:

-Set your account security (on Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, etc.) so that only your "friends" can see your profile details.

-Never give your passwords to anyone.

-Use a profile photo that does not show your face or display other information about you.

-Do not give out information about your school, where you live, or your phone number.

-Don't "friend" people you haven't met in person.

-Do not meet people you have "met" on the Internet without one of your parents present.

-Keep in mind that people you meet online may be lying about who they are.
