The minor climbed onto the roof of an abandoned hotel and fell to her death.
It all started with the Ask.fm forum, created in Latvia, in which users maintain their anonymity, which makes it particularly dangerous, with many suicides in the US and Britain having been caused by intense conversations between teenagers.
14-year-old Nadia, who had just broken up with her boyfriend, wrote on the online page: "I will never love anyone else again. Because there is no need," to trigger a series of reactions from users, who sent her photos of razors and drawings depicting wrists with veins cut.
Besides, as she revealed on the forum, she often self-harmed and then commented: "Mom doesn't know. But when you see the blood flowing, you feel very good, satisfied with yourself."
Some told her to stop hurting herself, but most were thirsty for more blood and taunted her, asking for new photos.
"Stop because I'm going to slit my wrists. You inspire me," he wrote, receiving responses such as: "Kill yourself," "I hate you," "You're a whore...", "Nobody wants you."
She continued posting messages like: "I know no one wants me. Isn't it better if I kill myself? Can you tell me a way to do it?"
In fact, one of her interlocutors sent her a link to watch a film about suicide.
Ultimately, the messages led her to make the decision and climb to the roof of the hotel, from where she plunged into the void.
Following the publication of the shocking incident, MPs today called for the adoption of a law against online harassment.
"This is a clear case of cyber bullying. Someone needs to take responsibility. If necessary, let the pages be closed," said lawyer Maria Pia Rizzo, a specialist in minors.
As for Micaela Campana, a member of parliament for the Democratic Party, she argued that it is necessary to urgently discuss in parliament a law on harassment, and especially on harassment on the Internet, as, as she said: "We can no longer tolerate young people ending their lives due to threats and psychological pressure."
