Malwarebytes security researchers have identified a new spam campaign, which is designed to lure unsuspecting users to websites hosting fake surveys and unwanted programs.
The fake emails titled “RE: Your Job Application” inform users about the approval of a supposed job application they have submitted and state:
“Thank you for your recent job application, which has been approved after a relevant evaluation. We wish to proceed with immediate hiring, and to provide you with paid training, regarding this specific position . If you are still seeking employment, please visit our website and complete some additional information, via the following link.”
The website to which users are redirected varies depending on their location. However, experts have found that in most cases, victims are taken to a website where they are encouraged to install iLivid (toolbar), Ask Toolbar, and Torch Browser.
In other cases, victims are taken to websites where they are asked to complete certain surveys in order to win cash prizes.
If you encounter such emails, simply delete them. If you have fallen victim to this scam, remove all applications you have installed and scan your computer with antivirus software to make sure you have not been infected with dangerous software.
