Internet users are being warned to be wary of websites that offer designer clothing at very low prices. Security experts at F-Secure are warning about the existence of several “dark” online stores that carry designer clothing from Canada Goose and have appeared on the internet since September 2013.
The websites, which claim to offer discounts of up to 70% on winter clothing, are being promoted via Facebook. One of the posts identified by researchers on the social network advertises a Canada Goose clothing website that is primarily targeted at users in Finland.
The website is very suspicious and is most likely a scam. First of all, it is not owned by an official Canada Goose retailer. Furthermore, the website domain is registered in China, and has been in use for the past year. Users who wish to make a purchase are asked to provide their personal information, but no encryption is used to protect the data. Finally, the discounts offered sound too good to be true.
That's why researchers emphasize that users should only choose trusted retailers for online purchases.
