The response of the Hosting company WebHosting4U, https://www.webhosting4u.gr/ to the communication of SecNews was immediate. Within a few minutes (extremely fast, we must admit), an executive of the Greek hosting company involved in the incident contacted us, without its knowledge of course.
As we were informed by the most official source, themalware was placed without the company's knowledge on a server that had been rented by a client of the company. The company did not fall victim to a malicious intrusion, but the client himself legally rented the dedicated server, and apparently used it to distribute the malware.
The company has already taken all necessary actions (collection of log files, customer data, etc.) which are at the disposal of the Cybercrime Investigation Department. In addition, it has deactivated the server that was spreading the malware for approximately 2 hours in order to prevent the virus from spreading further.
SecNews must emphasize the company's exemplary and immediate response to the incident, unprecedented for Greek standards and an example of how similar incidents are managed by companies and organizations.
