Apple is set to add new photo editing tools to the Photos app, which will be powered by Apple Intelligence and will become available in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 (according to Bloomberg reports).
Photos app: New Apple Intelligence features for image editing
Apple Intelligence technology will be able to make “subtle” changes to image quality, position and focus, with the new capabilities being added to Clean Up, the only AI editing tool Apple has released to date.

The Photos app in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 will feature an “Apple Intelligence Tools” section when editing an image. Options will include Extend, Enhance, and Reframe.
– Extend: Extend creates additional image content beyond the original photo frame, filling in the landscape when cropping changes are made. This tool will support extending the edges of an image with zoom gestures.
– Enhance: Uses AI to automatically adjust the color, lighting, and other parameters of the image, similar to how automatic editing works now.
– Reframe: When used with spatial photos, Reframe will allow users to change the perspective of an image after it has been taken.

The integration of Apple Intelligence tools into the Photos app shows Apple's clear intention to invest more aggressively in artificial intelligence, bringing more "smart" and automated image editing capabilities into the hands of users.
However, it seems that Apple is still working on these features, so Extend and Reframe may be delayed or limited. Clean Up, Apple's existing AI tool, is still having issues even a year and a half after its release. It's capable of removing unwanted objects from an image, but it's not as good at filling in missing information. Other similar AI tools, from smartphone makers like Samsung and Google, are more effective in this area.

On the other hand, every new feature and every improvement is welcome and users are eagerly awaiting iOS 27. Apple seems to be planning more user-friendly tools that reduce the need for specialized knowledge and make photo editing more accessible to everyone. The new iOS version will be presented at the WWDC 2026 keynote, scheduled for June 8, 2026.
