Hackers from the LulzSec Peru group have compromised and defaced the official website of the President of Peru (presidencia.gob.pe).

The attack took place on Sunday and administrators quickly took the website down. The page now appears to be functioning normally.

Hacktivists have targeted the Presidency website because they are unhappy with the way the country is being governed.

The hackers wrote in Spanish on the defaced website: “We carried out the attack [on the Presidency website] because the country is run by people ‘without brains’, who only seek power and do not care about the people of this country, but only about their personal interests. We hope they realize that they are causing damage to the country. We do not like corruption.”

The Peruvian Presidency has not issued any statement regarding the hacking attack.

This is not the first time LulzSec Peru has targeted the country's presidency. In April, they hacked the President's Twitter account and blog.
