Right now, Facebook 's database doesn't include many dead users, as the social network is only 8 years old. But what will happen in a few years from now? When will the number of deceased Facebook users exceed the number of living users?
The answer is given by Randall Munroe, who places this either around the year 2060 or much later, around 2130. As he explains
Based on the growth rate of the social network's users and their age distribution, there are currently approximately 10-20 million users who created a Facebook profile and are no longer alive. Within the next seven years, the death rate will double and in the following seven years it will double again.
However, although we can somehow predict death, it is not as easy to predict the course of the social network in the long term, so as to compare the rate of new registrations with deaths.
If its popularity gradually begins to decline, dead users will surpass living users around the year 2060. Otherwise - if Facebook continues its upward trajectory - this will happen around the year 20130.
