Greece ranks second after Romania in cyber-bullying [VIDEO]

Greece ranks second after Romania in cyber-bullying [VIDEO]The data currently available to the Police Authorities, according to research, shows increasing trends throughout the country and in our region, regarding the increase in school bullying and bullying via the internet.

Approximately 10-15% of students are victims of school bullying by their classmates of the same or older age, while boys are the main perpetrators, who mainly use physical violence. Our country ranks 4th among 41 countries in incidents of intra-school violence and bullying, while regarding the new form of bullying that is developing through mobile phones but mainly through the internet, cyber bullying, Greece is in second place after Romania.

These are the latest data available to the Hellenic Police as well as other Organizations and Associations dealing with this issue, while in the coming period, more specific results are expected regarding what exactly is happening in the schools of Patras, Achaia and the Western Greece Region in general.

And all of this will result from the pioneering program that the General Police Directorate of the Western Greece Region has already begun to implement with the start of the school year in the schools of the region.

This is another preventive action by the Hellenic Police in Western Greece, during which trained officers, as well as the psychologists of the Hellenic Police in the Region, will go to school complexes where they will come into contact with the students and inform them about serious social issues.

Issues such as road safety, driving, school career guidance, drugs and especially school bullying or cyber bullying.

In Achaia, as well as in Ilia, Aetolia and Acarnania, there are many schools, with the help of Primary and Secondary Education, that have registered to participate in these specific lectures that will take place throughout the school year.

Th. Hasapi: "Now the phenomenon has begun to take on dimensions"

Bullying and cyberbullying have begun to take on a larger dimension. As Mr. Sfetsos pointed out, psychologists from the Greek Police will develop and address this issue in lectures held in schools, so that students are now aware of the risk they are running and thus be more careful.

"Now the phenomenon has begun to take shape. It is not new, but the frequency and intensity with which it manifests itself and the forms it takes differentiate it from the past. Overall, with the data we have available from research, approximately 10-15% of students fall victim to school bullying. Our country ranks 4th among 41 countries in incidents of intra-school violence and bullying, while in terms of cyberbullying, we are second as a country after Romania," explained Lieutenant Colonel A (Health) Theodora Hasapi, during the press conference.

Mrs. Hasapi also referred to what will be presented to the children and the effort to have the students externalize the experiences they have had so that they can be addressed and helped in every possible way, adding that it mainly concerns acts of violence between students in order to cause pain or upset. Its forms vary, such as physical, bullying, verbal, psychological, sexual, social and cyberbullying. The latter is the most recent form, particularly dangerous, where the perpetrator may remain unknown, due to the internet.

In these lectures, an attempt will be made to approach the profile of children who experience such behaviors, the effects on their psycho-emotional development will be emphasized, but there will also be encouragement for students to report such behaviors to parents or teachers.

Ch. Sfetsos: "Prevention actions continue"

"For many years, the Hellenic Police, regarding traffic and road safety issues, has been making a remarkable effort, visiting schools and informing children. With these lectures, we will attempt to inform students about how we operate as fellow passengers, public transport passengers, bicycle drivers and pedestrians, but also how we should behave on the school bus, since many accidents occur even then," noted the Press Officer of the General Police Directorate, Police Chief A Charalambos Sfetsos, during an interview.

At the same time, Mr. Sfetsos also referred to the serious issue, the scourge of drugs: "Our experienced officers will speak to children, in secondary education, about this major problem, about the way in which would-be traffickers attempt to approach them, and will present them with audiovisual material that shows how, within a very short period of time, drug use burdens the health and affects the external appearance of users.".

In addition, he emphasized that there will also be a presentation on school career guidance and mainly information on the profession of police officer, the method of admission to Police Schools, the duration of their studies, the subject of study and professional rehabilitation.
