Nucor Corporation, the leading steel producer in the United States, confirmed that it suffered a cyberattack, which forced the company to proactively disconnect critical IT and implement containment measures.
According to the relevant disclosure filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), unauthorized attackers gained access to the company's internal information systems.

While the full impact of the cyberattack is not yet clear, initial estimates indicate that production operations were impacted at several units, and Nucor Corporation is continuing to assess the extent of the problem. The company said it is in the process of restarting production.
Nucor, with over 32,000 employees in the US, Mexico and Canada, is a foundation of the American industrial and manufacturing ecosystem.

The company confirmed that, after identifying the breach, it immediately deactivated vulnerable systems, activated its incident response plan and collaborated with specialized cybersecurity companies, while it is already in communication with the competent authorities.
However, important questions remain unanswered: no official information has been provided regarding the nature of the attack, the time of its occurrence , or whether it involved the theft of sensitive data or file encryption.
So far, no known ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack, making it difficult to identify the perpetrators and their motives.
