OpenAI on Monday unveiled Sora, its new artificial intelligence (AI) for converting text to video.
Sora is now available on Sora.com for ChatGPT subscribers in the US and “ most other countries,” along with the new Sora Turbo model. The latter brings upgraded features like text-to-video, animated images, and video remixes.

ChatGPT Plus subscribers can create up to 50 prioritized videos (1,000 credits), with a resolution of up to 720p and a maximum duration of 5 seconds. On the other hand, the recently launched ChatGPT Pro subscription, which costs $200 per month, provides “unlimited creations”, up to 500 prioritized videos, resolution of 1080p and duration of up to 20 seconds. In addition, Pro users enjoy watermark-free video downloads and the ability to create up to five videos at once.
OpenAI also introduced a new Explore page, where users can view videos created by AI through the community. It also introduced tools like storyboards, which allow videos to be created through a sequence of prompts, and remix, which allows videos to be modified with new prompts.
OpenAI ensures that all videos created with Sora will contain watermarks and C2PA metadata to clearly indicate that they are AI products. Before uploading any video or image, users are asked to confirm that the content does not include minors, violence, inappropriate material, or copyrighted work.

Sora's chief product officer, Rohan Sahai, said the company will continue to strive for a balance between creative expression and preventing illegal use, but acknowledged that this process will require constant evolution and improvement.
