Nintendo is finally ready to unveil the next phase of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.
In a Nintendo Direct today, the company revealed the first official look at the Donkey Kong Country -themed expansion for the theme park, which includes a mine train and a real-life version of the three-player Donkey Kong rhythm game. The expansion will open its doors on December 11th.

To reach the new area, visitors will pass through a tunnel that appears to be made of rocks, leading to a jungle-themed location. There, they will find an impressive treehouse, a golden temple that shoots steam, and many banana-flavored deserts. As in the games, they will have the opportunity to discover and collect giant letters hidden in the area, using the park's NFC bracelet.
Of course, there are now also bracelets themed around Donkey Kong for collection, as well as an animatronic Cranky Kong. If you missed the live presentation, you can watch the full video that is embedded at the top of this article.
Nintendo announced for the first time the park's expansion in 2021, with plans to open it this year. Although the current flow included the Japanese version of Super Nintendo World, the company had previously stated that all attractions, both in Osaka and in Los Angeles — including the Donkey Kong section — will be part of Super Nintendo World in Orlando when it opens next year.

This expansion of the theme park is part of a broader plan by Nintendo to expand beyond gaming, also including appearances in feature films.
These announcements come after a series of revelations and releases from Nintendo in recent weeks, covering an impressive spectrum of experiences. In early October, the first Nintendo Museum opened in Kyoto, followed by the release of the Alarmo alarm clock, an online test for a mysterious MMO and a music streaming app.

Of course, all of this is happening as fans await news about the company's next console, the long-awaited sequel to the Switch. While little has been announced so far, last week, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch's successor will be backward compatible.
