What features make AirPods Pro 2 stand out?

Apple continues to improve its top-of-the-line wireless headphones: AirPods Pro 2 .

AirPods Pro 2

The second-generation version (with Lightning or USB-C ports) launched with impressive active noise cancellation, transparency mode, and more. A year later, Apple introduced a major update that added Adaptive Audio, Conversation Recognition, and more. Later this year, Apple will release another update with new improvements and features.

Adaptive sound

The AirPods Pro 2 launched with three noise-control modes. Noise cancellation effectively blocks out external sounds. Transparency mode lets you hear the sounds around you while keeping your ears covered. Off mode is reminiscent of the sound quality of traditional headphones before the AirPods Pro. Mediocre and with poor sound. So you'll probably prefer to use "Noise Cancellation" or "Transparency.".

Adaptive Audio

Adaptive Audio “intelligently combines Transparency and Noise Cancellation, adapting to the user’s environmental conditions to deliver the ideal experience every moment,” Apple says.

Adaptive Audio lets you enjoy Transparency mode while you wash the dishes. Then, Noise Cancellation automatically adjusts when you turn on the vacuum cleaner. You won’t even notice the mode change, as the audio playback remains constant. The restoration of ambient sounds will surprise you when you realize what happened.

Conversation Awareness

Since their first release in 2017, AirPods have always been great at letting you pause your music and focus on the world around you. With Pause , simply remove an AirPod from your ear to stop playback. Perfect.

When you’re talking and Conversation Recognition is on, AirPods Pro 2 automatically lowers the volume and boosts the voices of people speaking in front of you. At the same time, Conversation Recognition reduces background noise.

This allows you to enjoy your music and greet someone passing by without having to touch your AirPods.

Mute or Unmute

The Mute and Unmute feature may not sound as impressive as Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness, but it's just as useful when using AirPods Pro 2 on phone calls. With a simple press on the stem of your AirPods, you can easily mute or unmute during any call, without having to take out your phone.

Personalized Volume uses machine learning to allow AirPods to "understand environmental conditions and listening preferences over time, automatically optimizing the media experience."

Automatic Switching is a feature that has been around for a while now that allows you to move between Apple devices. A recent update improved this feature, making connection times between Apple devices significantly faster and more reliable, according to Apple.

iOS 17 introduced these features to AirPods Pro 2 for the first time. The Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Mute or Unmute, Personalized Volume, and Automatic Switching improvements are available after updating to iOS 17.

Starting with iOS 18, Apple will release these features:

Siri interactions

AirPods are one of the best ways to interact with Siri on the go, and with the new Siri Interactions feature, that experience becomes even more personal, private, and convenient. AirPods Pro users can simply nod their heads to respond to Siri announcements — yes, with a nod, and no, with a gentle head movement. This is especially useful in crowded or quiet areas where no one wants to speak loudly. Powered by machine learning in the chip , Siri Interactions allow users to answer or decline calls, interact with messages, manage notifications, and more — all without having to speak.

Voice isolation

To provide the best possible call quality regardless of ambient conditions, AirPods Pro introduce Voice Isolation. This innovative feature is now available for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Machine learning, running on the H2 chip in AirPods Pro and on the paired iPhone, iPad or Mac, isolates and enhances voice quality by removing significant ambient noise, such as the air around the caller.
