Google is launching a new Workspace feature that requires multi-party approvals for changes to high-risk settings, to prevent unauthorized or accidental changes that could compromise security .
Google Workspace is a comprehensive suite of cloud-based productivity and collaboration tools. It includes most of Google's core services, including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Google Meet , and Google Calendar. It is used by businesses, education institutions, and individuals.

In August, Google announced that it was introducing a new feature called multi-party approvals, which requires one administrator to review and approve important actions taken by another administrator.
“ Multi-party approvals add an extra layer of security for sensitive actions taken in the admin console, ensuring that no sensitive actions are taken in secret and, most importantly, helping to prevent unauthorized or accidental changes ,” Google said in a statement. “ This additional level of approval helps ensure that actions are taken appropriately . ”

The actions that require approvals from different administrators include:
- 2-step verification
- Account Recovery
- Advanced protection
- Google login period check
- Login challenges
- Passwordless (beta)
Thanks to multi-admin control, if a hacker compromises an administrator's account, they won't be able to perform actions that could compromise the entire organization. Any significant change will have to be approved by other people as well.
This feature also aims to prevent harmful actions by legitimate administrators.
Approval requests are sent to super admins via email and can be viewed and approved directly from the admin console within 72 hours.
Once an action is approved, it is executed automatically and the requesting administrator who initiated the action does not need to take any additional action.

The rollout of multi-party approvals started yesterday and will become gradually available to all users in the coming weeks.
