Grok , Elon Musk 's AI chatbot that was previously only available to Premium+ subscribers on X, is now becoming accessible to the wider public.
On Tuesday, CEO announced that the AI assistant will be available to Premium subscribers "this week."

Previously, Grok was only available to X users who were subscribed to Premium, which isn't particularly cheap at $16 a month (Premium used to cost $8 a month). While some Premium+ users don't seem thrilled about losing their exclusive access, the general reaction to Grok seems to be in line with Musk's recent decision to open source the chatbot .
It is worth noting that the open source version of Grok differs from the version used by X users. The model published on Github comes from a pre-training phase in October 2023.

Elon Musk has a complicated relationship with artificial intelligence. He recently sued OpenAI, a company he previously served on the board of directors for, claiming that the creators of ChatGPT violated their agreement not to make their product open source.
OpenAI then responded by publishing emails from Musk confirming that he was aware of the company's plans to stop publicly sharing its work.
