Sony and Siemens are collaborating to create a wireless headset, a device that is part of a broader vision .

The goal is to create an “industrial metaverse,” where mixed reality plays a central role in the manufacturing and design processes of businesses. The name of the device has not yet been revealed, but Siemens refers to it as “Sony’s new spatial content creation system.” Sony said the headset will be available “later in 2024.”

We also get a new look at the headset itself, which Siemens says features “ OLED .” And, as mentioned during Sony’s keynote, the device will be powered by a couple of unusual controllers. It looks like one is so small it’s worn on a finger, and the other is larger that looks more like a typical VR controller.
Both companies presented a number of potential use cases for the technology. For example, Red Bull Racing will use the headset to visualize the cockpit of a Formula 1 car (a Red Bull spokesperson on stage said it was still "early for us at this point" with the technology).
Siemens is pitching the headset as a tool to enable what the company calls an “industrial metaverse.” CEODr. Roland Busch describes it as “a space where humans and artificial intelligence truly collaborate using real time to solve real-world problems.”

The keynote confirmed that this headset is more intended for professional use. While it's not a competitor to the Apple Vision Pro, it could offer interesting mixed reality capabilities that might be more appealing than VR workstations.
