Google now provides support for the first - generation Nest Cam Indoor in the recently updated Home app.
Google has finally added support for older Nest Cams to the Google Home, starting with the first-generation Nest Cam Indoor from 2015, according to a Google post on Thursday.
The feature is available in the Google Home Public Preview, and you can find instructions on how to join the program on Google’s website. However, it may take a while before you can use your Nest Cam Indoor through the app. “When you’re ready to transfer your camera, you’ll see a message on the Home app’s Public Preview page (this may take time as we slowly add more Nest Cam Indoor users each week) and then the app will walk you through the process, with the necessary steps,” Google says in its post. “When users have access to Nest Cam Indoor, they’ll receive an email.”
Google launched a revamped version of the Home app at Google I/O in May. At the time, Anish Kattukaran, Google Home product manager, reiterated the company's plans to add support for older Nest cameras. However, Kattukaran said that the Nest Cam Indoor would launch in July, so the company is a bit behind schedule. The first-generation Nest Cam outdoor is also set to get Home app support in the future
If you don't like the experience of using the Nest Cam Indoor with the Home app, you can "revert" it to the app . In its post on Thursday, the company said that "there are no changes to the Nest app as of today" and that "you can continue to use the app as you have been doing."
