iPhone 14 Pro: Bug causes horizontal lines on startup

Owners of the latest iPhone 14 Pro have reported that lines appear on the screen when starting up their device and then disappear after a few seconds.

Concerned reports of horizontal lines appearing on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max after turning them on have been reported by several consumers. This only occurs during startup, but since it does not occur on other models, there is concern that if this issue is not fixed quickly, further problems may arise.

On December 22, a MacRumors Forum named Infernoqt discovered this issue and noticed that the horizontal lines were not appearing every time he turned on the device, suggesting that it could be a random issue. He had been using his device for two weeks before making this discovery, and after asking the question on Reddit , he realized that there were several other people with similar experiences. Restoring or updating iPhones to iOS 16.2 unfortunately proved unsuccessful in solving the mystery.

"Greetings! I recently got a new iPhone and noticed that when the device "wakes up", vertical lines appear briefly on the screen. This phenomenon is random in nature - however, it seems to occur more often after the phone's screen is turned off due to not being used. This issue did not appear before I updated to iOS 16.2 two weeks ago - so far only five people have reported similar incidents on Reddit. Therefore, I was wondering if you could confirm this problem. Additionally, any possible solution would also be greatly appreciated!"

u /1LastOutlaw8 , an iPhone 14 Pro Max user on Reddit , shared that his device was experiencing the same issue. Although the technician claimed that nothing seemed wrong after a trip to the Apple Store , none of his attempts – not even a hard reset or an iOS 16.2 update – were able to eliminate these horizontal lines.

In another Reddit thread, countless iPhone 14 Pro users claim that when starting up the device, they notice green and yellow lines appearing on the screen before disappearing after a few seconds. Apple support reportedly revealed to the same people that this issue is due to an iOS 16 bug and not a hardware failure.

Reports of horizontal lines appearing on iPhones have seemingly surfaced since the release of iOS 16.2 , so it seems like Apple 's latest update is likely to blame for these issues. However, with Apple having only just begun testing iOS 16.3 with developers, we may have to wait a little longer for this issue to be fully resolved.
