Google and Samsung have partnered to create Health Connect , a platform and API (application programming interface) that will simplify connectivity between health and fitness apps to allow users to share their data across apps. Essentially, this API gives developers a set of tools to sync users’ health and fitness data between apps and Android devices. This will make it easier for users to track their health and fitness data across multiple platforms.

Once a user opts in, developers can aggregate data into an encrypted hub located on a user’s device. According to Google, users They will have full control over what kind of data they share. will also know exactly which apps they are sharing it with. It’s worth noting that if more than one app collects the same type of data, (e.g., steps taken), users can choose to share that data with just one app. Health Connect supports over 50 data types across various categories, including activity data, body measurements, cycle tracking, nutrition, sleep, and more.

“We are working with Google and other partners to fully realize the benefits and capabilities of Health Connect,” said TaeJong Jay Yang, executive vice president of Samsung, in a press release. “permission user, this will allow app developers to benefit from accurate and optimized data… and use it in their apps.”

According to Google and Samsung, Health Connect is currently in open beta and available to all Android developers. In addition to Samsung, Google is also working with developers from MyFitnessPal, Leap Fitness, and Withings. Google Fit and Google-owned Fitbit are also set to adopt Health Connect, which means the technology will be available in time for the Pixel Watch later this year.
