To add a new number, you should be able to receive Signal messages sent to your old number. Then, head to the new “Change Phone Number” option in account , where you’ll be asked to enter both your old and new numbers. Finally, Signal will walk you through the usual sign-up process for setting up a phone number with one of its accounts.

Once you have successfully updated your number, contacts you were chatting with on Signal will see a new message in your thread noting that you have changed your phone number. It is very important not to lose your existing conversations.

The new feature is intended for users who are keeping their current phone but also keeping a new phone number — if you don't want to use your old number but want to keep your hardware, you'll need to use Signal's local data transfer feature to send your data from your old device to a new one.
