Hacker: Honda and Acura vehicles vulnerable to simple attacks

Keyless entry has become a standard feature on almost all cars, where it was once a luxury option. However, it has also changed the way thieves approach the process of breaking into a car. “HackingIntoYourHeart” recently conducted research and claims that many modern Honda and Acura vehicles can be accessed with a simple repeated attack using inexpensive hardware.

It's a bold claim and we'd like to see it confirmed by a third party. The gist of the claims is that simply recording signals from a Honda or Acura keyfob is enough to compromise the vehicle. There is reportedly no rolling code system in place and the commands can be easily reproduced.

Given these commands, controlling features like unlocking doors, opening the trunk, and even remotely starting the vehicle is a worrying situation. However, it's also somewhat surprising. Rolling code technology has been around for decades and makes basic replay attacks more difficult.

Whether Honda and Acura vehicles have a safety flaw, or if there's something else at play, remains to be seen. If you have more information on the matter, be sure to let us know.
