US IT MSP (managed service provider) CompuCom said it was the victim of a cyberattackthat resulted in the disruption of some services and customer disconnections from network its. The company took these measures (disruptions-disconnections) to prevent the spread of malware to the rest of the network.
CompuCom provides its customers with remote support, hardware and software debugging services , and other technology -related services . It is a subsidiary of The ODP Corporation and employs approximately 8,000 people.
Some of CompuCom's best-known (former or current) clients include Home Depot, Target, Citibank, Wells Fargo, Truist Bank, and Lowe's.
The attack on CompuCom's systems took place over the weekend
Over the weekend, the provider's customers were unable to access the company's customer portal.
When someone tried to visit the portal, a message appeared stating: “An error occurred while processing your request.”
According to BleepingComputer, CompuCom has begun contacting its customers to inform them that their systems have been infected with malware. However, it did not provide details about the type of attack.
CompuCom blocked access to some customers to prevent the spread of the malware. Also, one of the customers said that they had disconnected from CompuCom's VDIs (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) to ensure that data would not be affected by the attack.
According to a statement from CompuCom to BleepingComputer, there was a “incident malware” but there is currently no evidence that it has spread to customer systems.
The company said that it has started an investigation, which remains ongoing.
“As soon as we became aware of the situation, we immediately took steps to contain it, and worked with leading security to launch an investigation. We are also communicating with customers to provide updates on the situation and the actions we are taking,” the MSP said.
CompuCom is trying to restore customer services and internal operations as quickly as possible.
It is said that the attack was likely ransomware, but it has not yet been confirmed.
