Leading dairy company “Lactalis” has revealed that it has suffered a cyberattack, in which unknown threat actors breached some of systems . Lactalis employs 85,000 people in 51 countries and exports dairy products to more than 100 countries around the world. In addition, it controls several leading international brands, including Président, Galbani, Lactel, Santal and Parmalat.
In a press release published on February 26, Lactalis said that only a limited number of computers on its network were compromised in the attack . Specifically, the company said in its statement: “The Lactalis Group has detected an intrusion into part of its IT network. We immediately took measures to contain this attack and informed the competent authorities. The results of our investigations demonstrate that a malicious third party is trying to infiltrate our servers.”
The giant added that there is no indication so far that a data breach, while it continues its investigation into the security incident.
As reported by BleepingComputer, Lactalis has taken its IT systems offline. Lactalis also stressed that its teams are working to protect the interests of the company's customers, partners and employees. For this reason, the company has proactively restricted access to the public internet network. Additionally, while the dairy company said no data was stolen, malicious actors typically steal sensitive and confidential information when they spread across a compromised network.
Such attacks often lead to extortion and the publication of stolen data on data leak sitesif the required ransom.
A Lactalis spokesperson said: “We have detected a cyberattack on part of our IT network. Measures to limit the impact of this incident were taken immediately and the relevant authorities were informed. We have proactively restricted our access to the public internet network and are working to carry out all our activities under normal conditions. The conclusions of the investigations carried out have shown that a malicious actor is trying to enter servers . Our IT team has been fully mobilized in response to this regrettable incident, with the support of experts in the field of cybersecurity. No data breach has been detected so far and we continue to operate normally in accordance with our commitments.”
