Siri, the “smart” personal assistant that makes it easy for you to do various things on your iPhone, works quite well with “iMessage”. You can ask Siri to send a message and it will transcribe it into text for you. But what if Siri does something wrong? Sending an audio message provides the solution. Since the iOS 14 update, Siri can record your voice and send it as an audio message. While you can send voice messages directly in the app , the beauty of using your “smart” assistant is that you can do it without even picking up your iPhone – as long as you have AirPods or other headphones.
- To get started, turn to your smart assistant. You can do this by saying “Hey Siri” on your iPhone or AirPods. Alternatively, you can press and hold the Side on your iPhone.

- Then, just say “Send a voice message to (contact name)”.
- Siri will display a message “OK, recording…” and you will see Siri moving on screen .

- However, you should give it a second or two and then start talking, because if you speak right away, the first 1-2 seconds are cut off.
- Once you're done with the message, stop speaking. Siri will automatically stop recording.
- You'll then see a Siri card at the top of the screen with your audio message.
- You can tap the “Play”to preview the voice message to make sure you’re happy with the result. Tap the “Send” to send the message. You can also say “Send” to Siri on either your iPhone or AirPods.
- Once your message is sent, Siri will display another card at the top of the screen with the name of the contact you want to send it to.

Now, simply exit your personal assistant view by swiping up from the bottom of your iPhone's screen or pressing the dedicated "Home", if it has one.
The audio message will also be available in the Messages app. To find it, simply open the app and then open the conversation. You will see the audio message highlighted in blue. You can tap the Play to listen to the message you recorded. If you don’t hear anything, tap the Volume next to the voice message to unmute it.
Press the Play or Volume to listen to the voice message.
When dealing with voicemails, you should know that by default, audio messages disappear in two minutes.
