The Senate US and governments, such as that of Germany, are adding to the list of organizations advising their staff not to use the app .
According to a report from the Financial Times, a United States Senator sent a warning last week to Senate members and their respective staff telling them not to use Zoom due to concerns securitythat have arisen recently.
The warning was not an outright ban on the use of Zoom. It simply advised Senate members to consider alternatives, such as Skype for Business and others, to be more confident about security .
On the other hand, the German government imposed a Zoom ban on its staff
According to German newspaper Handelsblatt , the German Foreign Ministry told employees to stop using the app, citing security and privacy concerns .
Google, SpaceX, other companies and governments have also banned Zoom
The German government is not alone in taking this step. The governments of Taiwan and Australia have already announced their decision to ban Zoom. It has also been banned from schools in New York and major companies such as SpaceX and Google.
All organizations made this decision after the many security issues that came to light in recent weeks.
The video conferencing app suddenly rose to the top, thanks to quarantines and forced work from home. In December, it had about 10 million users. By March, it had reached 200 million users, as more and more people started using it to communicate with their loved ones and colleagues at work. Before the sudden rise, Zoom employees had focused on improving the app's features and had not invested much in security.
In early April, after security issues emerged and criticism mounted, Zoom CEO Eric Yuansaid the company would stop developing new features and focus on improving the app's security.
However, despite the quick response to resolving all issues, it will take some time to regain user trust.
