A new strange bug has recently been discovered on the Raspberry Pi 4, which prevents WiFi. This glitch is observed when the display is set to 2560 x 1440.
Many users have discussed this problem on various forums online and on the official forums , looking for a solution. In these forums, various workarounds have been mentioned. Of course, the simplest solution is to set the display to a lower resolution.
Researchers are still looking into the cause of this issue affecting WiFi functionality on the Raspberry Pi 4.
Developer of crazy work to fix the bug and the result is that when the Raspberry Pi 4 is at 2560 x 1440 resolution, the WiFi stops working. At lower resolutions, from 2048 x 1080 and below, there is no such problem.”
The problem is not confined to a single condition. Many users have encountered the same problem on the Raspberry PI, but Zini conducted his own research and was able to reproduce it in several circumstances:
- on both microHDMI outputs
- with two different cables: one with microHDMI to HDMI dongle adapter, one direct microHDMI to HDMI
- with three different RaspberryPi modules
- with 4 different power supplies
- with stock Raspbian Buster Lite
- with stock Raspbian Buster
- by stopping every process in the system, starting the network "manually" with wpa_supplicant and dhclient
- with two different SD cards
- by connecting to an AP, a few meters away from the Raspberry PI, or by connecting to a phone hotspot next to the Raspberry PI
