The Pokemon Company announced Wednesday that it has created a new app, called "Pokemon Sleep, that will track players' sleep and use the data for the game. The app is expected to be released next year.
The company 's CEO , Tsunekazu Ishihara, said: "We want to turn sleep into entertainment."
“Pokemon Go,” developed by Niantic Inc., published by The Pokemon Company and released in 2016, became a global phenomenon as millions of players from all over the world took to the streets to hunt for Pokemon.
The Pokemon Company was created with investments from Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. Today, it includes many products, including video games, toys, films, and more.
The first two Pokemon video games were released in 1996 on the Nintendo Game Boy handheld console. The series was a huge success, selling over 340 million units worldwide.
As for the new app, Pokemon Sleep, as we mentioned above, it will track players' sleep and then use some data, such as sleep duration or wake-up time, for the game. Exactly how this data will affect the game is not yet known.
The Pokemon Company's goal is to attract as many players as possible.
This probably won't be difficult, since everything the company has done so far has been a complete success. This is evident from the movie "Pokemon Detective Pikachu", which brought in over $120 million in revenue from its screening in North America.
The Pokemon Company has announced that it is preparing a sequel to Detective Pokemon, in the form of a game, and it will be available on the Nintendo 3DS handheld console.
At the same event, held on Wednesday in Tokyo, where The Pokemon Company announced its plans for the new app, a representative from Chinese company NetEase Inc. was also present. NetEase Inc. will soon release a “local version” of Pokemon Quest. In fact, it announced that it will create other versions of Pokemon games, which will be exclusively available in China.
