It's literally broken. Many users are reporting that they open the app and website only to see a big, blank space that says "there are no more posts to view right now."
In a statement, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed the issue, saying it had been fixed by 12:30 p.m. PT. “We have restored service for those who experienced a technical issue that caused some people on the East Coast and Europe to be unable to access News Feed,” the spokesperson said, without elaborating on the cause of the problem.
While not all users experienced it, the error appears to be quite widespread, with some users reporting some variation of the “no posts” issue.
It's not clear what the reason was or if it's related to Facebook's recent changes to its News Feed algorithm.
While the apparent disruption may be an annoyance for some of Facebook's most avid users, others point out that it's actually nice to have a little respite from the News Feed!
Ironically for Facebook, the empty News Feed came just days after it unveiled plans for a massive overhaul of the feature. The company's plan is to reorient users' feeds around posts from their friends and family, rather than from brands, businesses, and publishers, even if it comes at the expense of people who spend less time on Facebook.
So while the recent News Feed theme is likely not exactly what Facebook had in mind, it's certainly a way to achieve that goal.
So now you can stop constantly refreshing your News Feed and make up for all that lost time.
