Google Play: apps for WannaCry that don't infect Android

And suddenly the Google Play Store was filled with apps that promised to protect you from the WannaCry ransomware, even though there was no way for the infection to spread to Android devices.

However, the spread of WannaCry has stabilized… It seems that there are some who are trying to somehow capitalize on the WannaCry name. So if you search for the name WannaCry in the Play Store you will notice that a few apps appear that supposedly want to help you with various tips and tricks.Google Play: apps for WannaCry that don't infect Android

McAfee researchers examined one of the apps and found that not only are they unnecessary, but they also offer fake features and tricks to get you to download a second app that is filled with ads. This app promises to provide a malware scanner.

McAfee says it did not find any malware in these apps.

But the story of fake apps using the WannaCry name shows the tendency of many scammers to use trending names to make money. Of course, they are targeting internet users who are completely unaware of what is really happening, since in this case the malware cannot spread to Android devices.

So be aware of what is happening, check the developer, read reviews from others who have installed the app, or who have spotted the scam.
