Apple surprised the world when it launched the iPhone 7 without a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Cupertino company said consumers would use wireless AirPods to listen to music, but they became available months after the phone was released.
A few days ago, many people started receiving their AirPods, and some units are now available at Apple stores. The biggest concern with these wireless headphones is their tiny size, which makes them easy to lose. Some are also wondering about their durability. EverythingApplePro posted a video on their YouTube channel showing the AirPods being put through various tests.
The video shows that AirPods can withstand waist-height drops, but they do suffer some scratches - depending on the surface they land on. A head-on drop can send the AirPods flying out of the box but still remain fully functional, while it did cause the AirPods some visible scratches, which could also be the result of extensive use.
AirPods are very lightweight, which means they will bounce back quite easily when dropped, thus reducing the chances of them getting scratched.
The second test was to put the AirPods in the washing machine and run them through a full wash cycle. This could happen in real life, since the headphones fit in pockets quite well. The test also included putting detergent and some clothes in the machine.
For comparison, the classic headphones were also put in the washing machine. After 32 minutes, the LEDs worked just as well as before, and even better than the wired headphones.
