Apple has been intent on doing away with traditional things on its smartphones and laptops once and for all. Starting with the iPhone 7, which removed the 3.5mm headphone jack, paving the way for Type-C headphones. Now, rumors are that the new Macbook Pro that will be announced tomorrow will not have the traditional Escape key on its keyboard.
The MacBook Pro keyboard will come with a new Magic Toolbar which is essentially a touchscreen that allows you to perform a wide variety of tasks, while also displaying information related to certain activities, such as Apple Pay.
But while the addition of the Magic Toolbar is the most impressive change, there's something else a little unexpected. Remember the Escape key in the upper left corner? Forget it! Because the Escape key is no longer there and is no longer present on the keyboard.
A closer look will show that Apple has removed the Escape key entirely on the new MacBook Pros. Oddly enough, there is now a delete button there, which is essentially the backspace, but with a different name. The second button that has been lost is the power button. The new keyboard features Touch ID that has been placed next to the OLED display used by the Magic Tool. This will help Macbook Pro users log into the operating system, as well as authenticate Apple Pay payments.
However, the traditional power button is missing. It is now clear that Macbook Pro users will have to use Touch ID or a different way to turn on their laptop.
Additionally, Apple has also added the MacBook Pro branding to the bottom of the display, possibly to make the device stand out, but it remains to be seen whether all models will have similar branding or not.
There are also rumors that the new MacBook Pro could remove the standard USB ports and SD card support. This will be painful for even the most hardcore Apple fanboys. It remains to be seen how well users will accept Apple's new modifications.
