At previous publication we introduced a tweak that allowed you to get rid of the ads that Skype displays.
But since then, Skype has been updated and of course the ads have returned. Let's see what we can do:
To turn off ads follow the steps below:
From the Windows Control Panel (Right click on the bottom left corner, yes under the start menu and select Control Panel or Control Panel).
Notes: The system we use is in English, and the names will vary. But the pictures will show you the exact route.
In the Control Panel go to Internet Options.
In the Security tab, click on the "Restricted sites" icon and click on the Sites button:
In the Security tab of the "Controlled Sites" dialog box will appear on the screen.
Type the following in the text box, and then click the Add button:
https://apps.skype.com/
Close Internet Options and restart Skype.
You're done.
But there is a glitch with this tweak. The app home page will not appear as it was.
However, this is not a big issue, as this page does not provide any particularly useful features. All other features of the app will work perfectly.
Now, instead of ads, Skype will show gaps where the ads used to be.
To get rid of the advertising gaps, do the following.
Turn off Skype.
Open your Skype profile folder. To do this easily, press the two buttons together Win + R and type the following in the Run box that opens:
%appdata%\skype
Find the folder with your profile ID.
Inside this folder, you will find a file called config.xml. Open it with Notepad++ and look for the text:
AdvertPlaceholder
Change the value from 1 to 0. Save the .xml and you're done!
Note that when Skype is updated, this file may be overwritten and you may need to repeat the process.
