Google has announced that it is making all software packages from the Nik Collection available for free and is refunding all its customers who purchased the applications during 2016.
Google bought Nik Software in 2012, primarily for its mobile photo editing app Snapseed, which is finally available for free.
In addition to the Snapseed application, Nik Software is also known for other image editing programs, which are available as standalone software for Mac and Windows systems, as well as plugins for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Aperture.
After the Google purchase, the company bundled all the apps and made them available as the Google Nik Collection, for $149.
With the plethora of free image editing software available today, Google had no real profit from these seven, and as such, has taken the logical step and made them free for everyone.
“Starting March 24, 2016, the latest Nik Collection will be available for free: Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, Viveza, HDR Efex Pro, Sharpener Pro, and Dfine,” Google announced.
