Google today released a new tool to make it easier for applications and services on and off the cloud platform to communicate with each other: Google Cloud Pub/Sub is here.
The new API, which is still in beta, is designed to offer reliable, real-time messaging as a powerful alternative that isn't dependent on cable services. Google says the technology behind it has already been used to power apps like Snapchat's Discover feature, as well as its own services like Hangouts.
The API will provide all customers with 10,000 topics and 10,000 messages per second by default, and resource characteristics for each region covered by the Cloud Platform to reduce latency.
The company says that latency is measured in less than a second even if the messages handled by the service reach 1 million per second.
Developers can enable Pub/Sub from the Google Developers Console in the API & Auth Section.
