Many of us use YouTube to listen to a song occasionally, especially if we don't have a subscription to a real music service like Spotify or Google Music. But a Chrome extension called Streamus turns the website into a legitimate music service that will appear in a popup in your browser.
The Streamus extension is probably a feature that Google should have developed itself. But the app was developed by someone who quit his job at the company to focus solely on developing the extension. The developer says on Redditthat he's been working on the project for over three years.
The extension is built with Google's design language and allows you to search for any song on YouTube in a pop-up window. You can add it to a playlist and listen to it without having to have a YouTube tab open.
The extension does a lot more than you might imagine. For example, once you've created a playlist, you can share it with your friends via a URL, just like you would expect from a regular music service.
The extension also offers a radio service, just like Spotify or Pandora. The online radio automatically selects songs similar to the ones you listen to and plays them for you.
You are also able to queue songs from the internet by simply right-clicking on them, which makes it easy to listen to throughout the day.
You can try the extension from here.
Streamus , to work. It works just fine with good old YouTube.
