Microsoft has announced Skype TX, a new version of its VoIP service aimed primarily at professionals in the broadcast and news industries.
The TX application uses technology developed by Cat and Mouse, one of Microsoft's recent acquisitions, to provide media professionals with high-quality audio and video, while supporting the HD-SDI transmission standard.
Through the renewed TX application, multiple calls can be managed simultaneously, while simultaneously "blocking" distractions such as notifications from other calls or even the display of advertisements.
Additionally, through the Skypeinmedia.com website, Microsoft is showcasing examples of how the media is using Skype today, including the BBC and CNN networks and entertainment shows.
Microsoft did not announce availability and pricing for the renewed service, but it is clear that it aims to acquire users among media networks, who until now used the "simple" Skype to meet their needs.
