The Sony World Photography Awards 2014 received 139,554 entries from 166 countries. Today, the organizing committee has revealed a shortlist of the best images from which the winners will be selected.
There are two categories, professional and amateur, and the images cover the entire spectrum of wildlife and human life: from the wild landscapes of Kenya to Inuit whale hunters. The photos are fascinating and moving. Sometimes their subjects are not pretty, and they touch on serious issues.
