Indian-origin Satya Nadella has been selected to succeed Steve Ballmer as CEO at Microsoft , beating out big-name candidates such as Ford 's Alan Mulally and Nokia 's Stephen Elop .
Bill Gates will now act as an advisor to Nadella, and stated about him, among other things, that he is an executive who has proven his leadership skills, knowledge , and vision, coming from the company's Cloud division.
Much about Nadella 's profile is unknown, partly because his responsibilities so far have not attracted the public eye, and partly because he is not particularly active on social media .
Let's look at five issues that characterize the new "planetary ruler" of software.
1. He wasn't one of the students who stood out
His college principal did not remember him, as reported by the Times of India in their publication, but his records, he said, show a "first- class" student.
2. Creative and hardworking behind the scenes
His creations include the Dynamics CRM/ERP suite , and various cloud and online services such as the Bing search engine .
3. Experiential leadership skills
Steve Ballmer and his cricket, which he loves, are among Nadella's "mentors" in terms of leadership skills and teamwork.
4. Google critic sees future focused on data
At a recent Internet conference, he argued that the ability to collect and manage data that will power every experiencewill be at the center of the next decade.
5. Literature lover
He is a fan of GV Desani's book All About H. Hatterr. It is the story of one man's search for enlightenment, and is considered by Nobel laureate Salman Rushdie to be the progenitor of modern literature in India.
