The New York Times and at least some of its smartphone apps are currently offline. The famous website has been unavailable to its readers for some time now.
It’s very normal for a website to go down for a while and then come back up, but it’s extremely rare for a major website like the New York Times to go down without informing their audience.
In fact, there are some reports that the website is under a hacking attack, most likely a DDoS. If that’s really the case, then the attack would have to be very powerful to bring the website down. In the best-case scenario, and to be on the safe side, the outage could have been caused by a technical glitch.
The newspaper confirmed that there are problems, via Twitter, but did not provide further details on the matter.
