Security researchers have discovered a way to install pirated software on an iOS device using a modified charger. The team from the George Institute of Technology reports that their charger was able to upload and install arbitrary software on an iOS device within a minute of being plugged in. According to the researchers, “all devices are affected” and the hack requires no action from the end user.
The hackers were able to hide the apps so that they wouldn't appear in the device's app list. It's unclear whether the charger is capable of uploading and running malicious code - on Apple's iOS devices, by default, they are "sandboxed" and can properly install and run digitally signed apps.
