Just an hour after he hit the start button on Mega.co.nz, exactly one year after Megaupload was shut down by the government, Kim Dotcom announced that his new service had gained 100,000 registered users.

Given the spectacular collapse of Megaupload, the launch of Mega seems to be quite a challenge. Will governments re-launch the new service that Kim dared to revive? He says the new service is “100% secure and unstoppable.”
The new site is proving to be extremely popular so far. A tweet from its founder said that the bandwidth clock went from “0 to 10 Gigabits in 10 minutes.” It’s very likely that it actually happened, as there was a lot of hype and many people were waiting with bated breath to make the first click. It will all become clear when the dust settles, how much traffic Mega will get, and how many problems it will face, as the MPAA is just around the corner.
