After Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, even porn sites ended Flash support and switched to HTML5
After being exposed for multiple vulnerabilities and zero-days, Adobe's Flash has made it very difficult for websites to use it. Mozilla and Google have already announced that they will stop supporting Flash in Firefox and Chrome, respectively. Now, even porn sites are starting to support HTML5 instead of Flash, to avoid data breaches.
For a long time, researchers have been discovering vulnerabilities and zero-days in Flash that expose users to cyberattacks. However, porn sites have continued to rely on Flash for their multimedia content. Now, porn sites are starting to ditch the old software and are starting to opt for HTML5, the new version of the web language that offers the widest support for multimedia content.
Porn giant Pornhub recently announced that it will end support for Flash and will soon switch to HTML5. It should be noted that another porn site, Brazzers, was recently hacked by unknown hackers who leaked approximately 800,000 accounts.
"It was only a matter of time before we changed, as HTML5 became the standard across all platforms. Now it makes more sense that Google and Firefox are slowly removing Flash support from their browsers. HTML5 now has improved security, better power consumption, and is faster."
As is the norm, smaller sites are following Google, and other sites are expected to follow Pornhub and switch to HTML5 by 2017. Currently, top porn sites like xHamster, YouPorn, and RedTube still offer multimedia content in Flash.
Adobe has tried hard to save its multimedia product, but it seems that Flash is now outdated and will slowly disappear.
